The Hubster Is Ill

Good Morning, I am a little sad, and very worried about the hubster today. Its like a dark cloud over me. Hubster has shingles and the breakout is bad! I suppose what is so hard about it is seeing him in pain...he has always been so health and the sight of him this way is hard for me to take. Sure, I know he is putting up a brave front for me, but I can tell he is in pain...it is so hard!
Those red blisters are so big they look painful! I'm trying hard to hold it together, but it is sooo hard...If he suspects that I am hanging on by a thread... What can I do?

Please tell me...is there anything I can do to help ease the burning pain? He has meds and benadryl was ordered, but he is still in pain.
Home remedies seem to help with other ailments, but this is something I don't have any dealings with. I use to hear my grand talk about it long ago and I always thought it was something folks had back then. Shows how much I know and how out of touch I am, huh?
I would appreciate any good tips from those of you who know about this awful ailment to help hubster, and I know he will too! Thanks for your help! Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
I will be so grateful,
Loretta

  2. Just said a prayer. I have known others that have had shingles including my 30 year old son. Your husband case sounds alot worse than others. If the meds don't help call the doctor back. I know sometimes it takes awhile for it to run it's course. Sorry.

  3. OH DEAR :-{
Like you I thought it was a thing from long ago, in the olden days.
    I found this:
    http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/shingles/shingles-treatment-overview

I am sure you already have searched the internet.

I feel for you, it is very hard to watch a loved one, the immediate reaction is the run around trying to stop the pain and make it better.

  5. I feel bad for you and the hubby. I know that when we see our strong men endure an illness it can be quite difficult for us. They are always so strong so when they are ill we know its something serious.

My mom had shingles and she is the home remedy queen, but unfortunately she had to let it run its course. I do know in her case stress can cause them to come back.

  7. I have a friend that just had them and she said it was awful. The pain didn't go away until she got to the DR. to get the medicines. After that the pain slowly eased away.
Hope the meds. kick in soon and take care of it.

  8. I am so sorry to hear this. It is so hard to see the ones we love hurting. I don't think there is much you can do. I would see if they will prescribe some pain meds. As much as I dislike those things, you just have to take them once in awhile. I will keep you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers.

  13. This is the 5th case I've heard of in the past 2 months. They can last a long time. A month or more. I've heard of it lasting 3 months. The doctors think it isn't contagious. I have a feeling that they don't know and I think it is. Pop has had it for a while maybe 5 wks now. He is getting better and is resuming his activities. The docs gave him meds but it is still so painful. Mom was thinking she was getting it too. Stress can cause it. You do know it's caused from the chicken pox virus. It's just my opinion but I wouldn't touch the blisters. I wonder if aloe plant juices would help. It makes a world of difference on a burn. Bless his heart. Hang in there. He will be fine but miserable and in pain. Prayers for him and you.

  16. OH NO! My James is sick! I just said a prayer. I don't know much about shingles, so I don't have any miracles to offer. Love and prayer seem to be natural remedies that do wonders.

  18. Oh I am so sorry! I have heard that shingles can be terrible. Oh sigh...

Hope someone else can be of help to you.

Please try to be calm, Dear One. I know it's hard.

And btw, I do not want e-mail replies to all my comments! Nooooooooooo! I only mentioned email, for answering questions. If someone asks us a question, we can reply to it, in an email.

But noooooooooo, I do not, nor do I think anyone should or has to... Send an email reply to every comment. Yikes! Who has the time for that?

Blogging should be fun. And all sorts of blogging *duties,* takes the fun out of it.

Lots of hugs to the both of you...

  23. Loretta, I hope your hubby is better today. I think shingles are the pits and I know they are super painful. I wish I had a remedy, but the only thing available is what a Doc orders. Prayers are always ready and I'll say them for you both.
