Welcome to our blog. Thanks for stopping by. My husband and I are empty nesters. We have been married 30+ years, have four children and 11 grandchildren. We enjoy the simple way of living with our 2 doggies and 3 cats who taught us how to live with them.

A Small Vignette of My Blue-n-White collectibles

Our Living Room is small, but we've arranged it comfortably, even including small vignettes

Vignettes We Love

I refer to these small wonders as "Style on a budget" with penny-wise details. Keeping it simple is the key to getting started. Know your style~what works for you. Aquaint yourself with the elements of good design even if you can't afford the very best.

Build a collection of pieces by exploring speciality shops, discount stores and outlets. My husband and I browse the flea markets, thrift shops, tag sales and the likes, for items that appeal to us and how they will fit into the decor. For us, "It's the thrill of the hunt". We love blue and white and we've collected beautiful, inexpensive pieces during our search.

Remember to group like-colors, similar wood tones, etc. to create your one-of-a-kind and stylish design. Here are a few examples of vignettes my Mom and I created. You will be able to see more of them on this blog.

Our Country Kitchen

There is always something cooking in our kitchen. This is the time of the year we keep a huge pot of soup on the back burner to warm heart and soul. I love country decor with plenty of baskets, roosters and herbs in little pots. Clutter doesn't bother me because it wouldn't be country without it!

Keeping a well stocked pantry with a good supply of staples, is the key to a good cook's kitchen. Utensils, pots, pans, etc. completes the well stocked kitchen.

Our kitchen is equipped with two refigerators and a freezer for putting away food from our garden. I love creating little vignettes on top of the refigerator because I can't stand seeing things undressed.

We invite you to come in and browse for you are about to discover a wonderful place where life is simple; and where you will be inspired to create and celebrate the simple way of life with things that really matters in life to you and your family. You will find helpful hints, tips, good eats and ideas to brighten your day and make life easier. Too, you will almost smell, taste the delicious meals, "Comfort Food" that we've prepared. Who can resist the delectable pies, cakes and other baked goodies that we love to prepare and share with neighbors?

When Someone You Loves Dies

This is another of "At Home with Loretta's" newspaper Columns: "When Someone You Loves Dies"...

Well meaning persons will tell you,"It's God's plan" when you've lost someone you love. And, most times, the breaved blames God. Contrary to what is believed, death was never God's plan. God's purpose for mankind was to live, procreate, and make the entire earth as the Garden of Eden. Adam, the first man, brought sin into the world; lost his life and the lives of all mankind. Romans 5:12. It is only reasonable then, that the unnatural event of death of someone close, sparks deep emotional pain for those it touches.

Yes, death is unnatural! The pains that it spawns is real, expected, but we can take comfort in the knowledge that our Creator understands our pain. Death is thus a cruel enemy that was never meant to be. 1 Corinthians 15:26.

A breaved person goes through the "grieving process" in many ways: the initial shock, disbelief, denial, emotional numbness, guilt feelings, anger; some experience extreme fatigue, abrupt changes in mood, flawed judgement, reduced work capicity, etc. Others allow well-meaning friends to dictate how they should feel or act, which should never be done. Grief is a normal reaction to loss and it is not wrong for your grief to be obvious to others! Cry if you have to cry! Don't try to be strong. Get it out of your system! Don't feel pressured to hold in your feelings. Let yourself grieve...it's a necessary emotional release and a part of the healing process! John 11:35.
Dwelling on all kinds of "what if's" will not change anything. If you have sound reason for guilt, then ask the Lord for His forgiveness. Only by becoming aware of the anger, not acting on it, but knowing you feel it, can help you to be free of its destructive effect. Blaming others for your frustration, guilt, and anger is futile.

Be patient with yourself. The tragedy has to to be endured, suffered, and eventually rationalized; to retard this unduly by knocking yourself out with drugs or alcohol are temporary at best; and will only prolong or distort the process.
Get back into your normal routine, even if you have to push yourself. Don't be afraid to let go of acute grief. Letting go of the pain makes way for treasured memories that will remain forever; and never underestimate the power of prayer. Psalm 55:22.
Yes, the grieving process can be painful, but as you recover, your experience through this loss will strengthen you, making you more understanding and sympathetic in helping others. Knowing this process, having the memories of your loved one tempers your grief and helps you to cope with your loss.

Why Is There So Much Hate In This World Today

One of the "At Home" columns written for The Enterprise

"Why"- a short word, yet, one that demands an answer. Case in point: when a gunman rushes inside a building and takes the lives of men, women, and children; wounds several others, and then turns the gun on himself. Obviously, he was full of hatred... for himself, for others, and for society in gereral. Afterwards, a saddened community leaves piles of floweres and teddy bears where a tag was seen among the pile with the single word, "Why?"

Why do innocent children die this way? Why is there so much of this kind of hatred? That the world is full of blind, unexplainable hatred has likely not escaped your notice. In fact, for one reason or another, you may have been a victim of hatred yourself, and maybe you too have probably asked "Why?" possibly more than once.

Dectructive hatred is based on prejudice, ignorance, or misinformation and is usually triggered by fear, anger, or a sense of injustice. Not having a proper basis, this hatred results in shocking results and repeatedly gives rise to the question, "Why?"

All of us know people whose characterisitics or habits may irritate us at times and with whom we find it hard to interact. But irritation is one thing; the desire to do people bodily harm is something else. That's why it's difficult to comprehend how a person can nurse feelings of haterd for entire groups of people. Long standing hatred of others because of their differences, is behind many of the problems in today's world. And, when coupled with racism, hatred becomes even more sinister. This kind of hate is so deeply rooted that even when the conflict is resolved, it remains. How else can we explain the difficulty in maintaining peace in war-torn and terrorist-plagued countries?

We live in a world that teaches hate! A person motivated by hate is consumed by his own passion and never care about others; these are the very same people who profess to love the true God...how contradictory! How selfish!

However, love deprives hate of its basis and triumps over it. It is the strongest force in the universe because God is Love! (1 John 4:8). The heart that beats for God's adversary...the devil...the god of hate, will not beat for long. However, the heart that beats for Almighly God, the God of love, will beat forever!
